This renovation project was a great experience working with a busy family who needed a kitchen and bathrooms that were not only functional but also reflected the unique character of their mid-1920s home. The original kitchen, was outdated and impractical for the family’s needs. My goal was to transform this space into a beautiful, efficient kitchen that would work for the family’s lifestyle while honoring the home’s historical integrity.
The kitchen redesign focused on maximizing storage and improving functionality, replacing old cabinets, appliances and plumbing fixtures with updated options. A standout feature of the kitchen is the stunning apron-front sink paired with a modern bridge faucet—an elegant piece that still maintains a vintage feel. The countertops were updated from heavy, dated concrete to lighter, brighter quartz, which I ran up the wall as a backsplash. This seamless design not only enhances the kitchen’s beauty but also makes the space feel larger and more cohesive.
To complement the updated fixtures and countertops, I chose a custom green hue for the lower cabinets, paired with a warm white for the upper cabinets. This timeless color combination gives the kitchen a fresh, inviting look. The dark, dated tile flooring was replaced with a vintage-inspired tile, adding warmth and character to the space while staying true to the home’s era.
Adjacent to the kitchen, I transformed the small bathroom, originally housing a shower, into a stylish powder room. Keeping with the home’s original charm, I added beadboard paneling to the walls and introduced a beautiful wallpaper above it. The new vanity, designed for ample storage, pairs perfectly with the brass sink faucet and features a striking backsplash that elevates the overall aesthetic.
Upstairs, the full bathroom received a complete overhaul, with new tile replacing the old damaged flooring and I used the same new tile for the shower walls, making the space feel larger and more modern. The new vanity was customized to meet the family’s specific storage needs, while updated lighting and a new mirror completed the fresh, functional design.
Through careful design choices and attention to detail, this project not only upgraded the kitchen and bathrooms but also enhanced the home’s historic charm.
